BIOGRAPHY
Raphael advises deep-tech companies on building and enforcing IP assets in Europe and the United States to protect their core USPs and supports investors in evaluating IP portfolios.
Raphael is licensed as a German and European Patent Attorney as well as an Attorney-at-Law in the United States. He advises clients on the build-up of high-quality intellectual property assets with a strong focus on legal validity and enforceability to protect commercially relevant unique selling propositions (USPs). His practice includes drafting, prosecuting, and defending IP rights before the European Patent Office (EPO), the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA), and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), as well as conducting freedom-to-operate and IP due diligence analyses.
Raphael focuses on complex technologies including medical devices and diagnostics, quantum technologies, nanotechnologies, and defense-related systems. He advises international corporations, leading research institutions, venture capital investors, and deep-tech startups on building, evaluating, defending, and enforcing globally aligned IP assets.
Prior to joining Pearl Cohen, Raphael was a founding partner of Tautz & Schuhmacher, where he established and led the Munich office, advising deep-tech companies and research institutions on the protection and defense of intellectual property in Europe and the United States.
