Michael L. Mohler is a Scientific Advisor to the Life Science Practice Group at Pearl Cohen’s New York office. Michael’s practice focuses on intellectual property matters in the pharmaceutical and life science sectors. Michael advises the Life Science Practice Group in a variety of matters related to patent preparation and prosecution in the areas of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, including small molecules, chemical processes, and methods of treatment. Michael also has experience in freedom-to-operate searches and analyses, patentability studies, and due diligence evaluations of patent portfolios. He has broad and deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and small molecule drug design. His client base comprises start-ups and mature pharmaceutical companies.
Michael has 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry gained prior to working at Pearl Cohen. He worked at GTx, Inc. in the Legal and Medicinal Chemistry Departments, and served as the patent liaison to Pearl Cohen while also actively supporting GTx’s preclinical research efforts. He was named as an inventor on multiple patents in the areas of nonsteroidal scaffolds of androgens or estrogens and oncology. He has also published 30 scientific research or review articles in prestigious international journals, including 4 book chapters and a Perspectives article in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. He earned his PhD performing computational drug design and bioassay screening in a medicinal chemistry laboratory, his MS studying antibiotic resistance in a biochemistry laboratory, earned a PharmD and is a registered pharmacist, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Organization.
